Legislative Issues

The advanced technology of EnviroBrassÔ was developed as a response to actions taken by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to establish requirements for products that come in contact with public drinking water. The National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) established Standard 61,  which replaced previously adopted initiatives. Several leading associations, including the American Water Works Foundation, the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators, the Conference of State Health and Environmental Managers and the American Water Works Association, have endorsed Standard 61.

Federal and state regulations require monitoring of the chemical composition of public drinking water. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) adopted ANSI/NSF Standard 61 to measure and certify standards for plumbing devices.

Several states have adopted ANSI/NSF Standard 61 measurement and certification standards for in-line plumbing components. Water utility companies must be in compliance with ANSI/NSF Standard 61. The National Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) requires lead free (less than 8 percent) in-line devices. Compliance deadlines vary from state to state.
